Young Angry and Poor…

your  T shirt yelled

in graffiti text as you raided

the  breakfast buffet in the Sahara

such  spunk – it went with the script

and your assault on a boiled egg

and you are right - so right

we - the lucky generation

war babies – fathers lost to the RAF

but gleaning all our people fought for –

free thought -  free education

(boy was it good)

free rebellion  and – to us

the freshness of free love

I’d be angry too –

minus the cash

for the roof you should have –

trained like greyhounds for

a world of boxes to tick –

the radical unspoken –

presenting your CV

for the chance of a glance

from Human Remains

for any job at all

yes - be angry

I wish you a gap year of a life

experimental – chilled –

but checking the wisdom

of most people at that breakfast buffet

(your designer dad included)

I’m glad your dozy brother’s T shirt reads

‘je ne suis pas

un serial killer’
