now, the walk

although I know you love her true

I’ll always love her more

a dad hopes all - sees all – feels all -

a softie at the core

my twinkling babe – a joy ago

she changed my focus fast

she strongly grew to challenge us -

a born iconoclast

she chose some boys – you chose some girls

to set your boundaries square –

I was a friend –

there is no choice – but at times sent up a prayer –

(‘please God not this one!’)

through pain and fun she  moulded me

(kids grow you up – they do)

and I am now her loving friend

and  walk this aisle -

towards you - a man I like

(what luck)

and hand my jewel to you -

to the one she loves and chooses

‘who giveth this woman?’  ‘I do’

the vows are done – the ring is on -

you both cherish and adore –

(I am your guarantor)

you see - although I know you love her true

I’ll always love her more
