My daughter’s reading habits fuelled her life:

she sneaked granny’s ‘Hegel Theory’ from the shelf

took it as her teddy on our hols

displayed it on her sun bed while she swam

but in the shade throbbed ‘Hello’

                 Tony Parsons (and the rest)

                 she met some funky boyfriends

                 (reading Proust)
