……this is Rymans in South Ken

this is the day when you gave

a cheery wave

going off to buy assiduously

50 cards for grateful godchildren

and countless ex tenants –

an eclectic successful bunch -

from what you loved to call

your ‘commune’ days in Redcliffe Gardens

this is the day that the lunches ended-

is it true that people who love lunch love life?

then came the day when your Admiral’s hat

on your coffin passed with the lusty singing of

‘for those in trouble on the sea’

empty hats and hymns - it’s a killer -

do funerals show you who you are?

and in August - still people ranged from far

this was the day of the classy pinot noir

this was the day for the man who preferred

his PA’s purple mini to his official car

this surely was a day to be glad in

glad for friendship caring maps parties

honourable things

glad for Rymans

glad in Rymans

glad
